Bieres de Le MeuseThis Alfrons Mucha advertisement exemplifies the works of art nouveau posters circa 1890. This poster “Bieres de Le Meuse” is a beer advertisement in France. I was fortunate enough to have seen the beautiful works of Mucha during my abroad experience in the Czech Republic. This poster has an exceptional way of attracting the audience’s attention. It is both intriguing and gorgeous. There are many components within the poster’s design. It has the view of the city at the bottom in black and white. It also features a small, simple portrait of a woman in black and white. Yet, Mucha perfectly displays the colorful, extravagant beer woman to take up most of the page. The French girl is surrounded with beer ingredients. Although the poster seems to have a lot going on and much detail; Mucha visually arranges the focus well for the viewer.

Mucha has a distinctive style that he used in advertisements, designs and illustrations. During the turn of the 20th century, he started the art nouveau style that has progressed into modern forms of advertisements. Many art nouveau works have been used as advertisements. During this time advertisement and design was perfected, honored, and explored. This exploration has developed into the importance and techniques of today’s art.
